Animals Should Be Treated Fairly

By: Natalie Summers

This is the story of a cruel murder mystery, animal edition! You know your phone that you spend hours on? Guess what? You could save a monkey’s life for some of the material inside of that phone. The people that make those phones know that they could save an animal or they could make money. To them, animals are not worthless, but useful for their companies and businesses.

Animals should be treated as well as humans. First, animals have been used for testing new products that may be toxic or poisonous, that can hurt or even kill an innocent animal. Next, we tear down forests where thousands of animals live, just for your McDonald’s drive through. Lastly, some animals are service animals, they save our lives and we treat them like trash we throw into their forest, ocean, or even desert home. How is it fair that we can take animals’ homes and kill them just for a brand new leopard jacket?

Animals are being used for testing new products that may be toxic or poisonous. According peta.org, “Each year, more than 110 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing”. This shows that companies and businesses are killing innocent animals just for a test they may never work, and even if they did, in only 365 days more than 110 million animals are killed for this product that may not even help anyone or anything. These are way too many animals losing their lives for potentially nothing but greedy humans.

Service animals save so many lives and make other lives a whole lot better. According to Thedodo.com, “The medical alert dogs use their amazing sense of smell to detect when something is wrong with their owner. They are able to alert their owners to oncoming seizures.” It also says that dogs can sense when their owners may have cancer so they can get to the hospital fast. This proves that animals can and do save many of our lives, so why can’t we save theirs?

Animals can help clean up the Earth. According to dawn.com, “Some scavengers are vertebrates such as vultures, hyena, crow, kites, while some are invertebrates such as crabs, beetles, flies, etc. There are both omnivorous and carnivorous animals that feed on carrion or dead animals, so they play their important role in maintaining the environment clean and removing germs from the environment. Their sharp eyesight and a strong sense of smell help them trace the carrion and rotten food source.” This may sound disgusting, but really, this shows that animals clean up the smelly waste that would just rot there and stink up cities and other towns. Eventually there would be so much rot everywhere that humans would not be able to live on Earth anymore due the amount of smell and waste everywhere, humans would slowly die off. If not for them then not you, not your parents, not even your grandparents would have ever lived. So the next time you see a vulture, thank them for cleaning up our wasteland.

In conclusion, animals should be treated just as well as you treat your neighbor, with love and respect, loyalty and with trust. We’ve seen the things animals do for us and the countless they save, and the terrible things they are forced to go through. Animals are incredibly reliable to us, we should be reliable to them. So the next time you see a vulture cleaning up waste, or a dog helping a person in need of service, thank them for the hard work they do for us and think to yourself, what am I doing for them?
