DIY Projects for the Fall Season

Now that it’s really cold out, it’s the perfect weather to stay in and make crafts. These crafts are fun to make and can pass the time. These crafts are seasonal and really easy. They can be done on your own, or with a friend or family member. You can use them to give a little fall spice to your room!

1. Popsicle Stick Scarecrow: This craft is perfect for Thanksgiving! It’s really easy to make it’s really fun too!

  • Get 8 popsicle sticks
  • Use a small paintbrush and paint one popsicle stick orange and let it dry
  • Use a pencil to draw a line on each popsicle stick. Make sure that each popsicle stick has a lower line than the one before it. 
  • Paint each popsicle stick orange from the line to the tip
  • Line the 7 popsicle sticks together
  • Hot glue the first painted orange stick onto the other 7 sticks. Make sure the 7 sticks are painted side up. 
  • Hot glue confetti to the back of the popsicle sticks, so it looks like hair (or straw)
  • Glue 2 googly eyes of whatever size you choose on the front
  • Paint an orange triangle under the googly eyes. 
  • Paint a black line under the triangle as the smile. Draw 7 small, black lines on top of your smile. 
  • Give it to a friend, or keep it!

2. Mason Jar Scarecrows: These scarecrows can be used to decorate your room! You can also use them for storage!

  • Grab a mason jar and use a paintbrush to paint it completely brown. 
  • Paint an orange triangle on the front of the nose
  • Use a sharpie or your paintbrush to draw a smile (or frown, whatever you want) under the nose
  • Paint 2 white or light pink circles on either side of your smile
  • Use a hot glue gun to glue on two googly eyes above the nose
  • Stuff the mason jar with confetti, and glue some confetti along the rim on the inside of the jar. This will be your hair. 

Now it’s time to make this scarecrow your own! Decorate it in any way you choose! Below are some ideas:

  • Glue a ribbon on the top of your jar
  • Glue a small bow onto the ribbon 
  • Glue flowers of your choice on the top left (or right) side of your jar
  • Place a hat on top of your jar
  • Have fun decorating!!

3. Mason Jar Leaf Lanterns: This craft is very simple, but the end result is really pretty. Put it on top of a shelf, turn off all the lights, and enjoy this fun lantern!

  • Take a small mason jar
  • Glue actual leaves onto the sides
  • Put a tea light in the center
  • Enjoy!

4. Fall Mason Jars: This craft is really simple and straightforward, plus it makes a great room decoration!!

  • Get a mason jar
  • Paint it whatever color you want(blue, green, red, purple, pink, yellow, orange, etc.)
  • Decorate! You can glue on ribbons, leaves, flowers, confetti, or googly eyes! You can also paint on designs if you want, just make sure the first layer of paint has dried. 

5. Coffee Filter Turkeys: This craft is perfect for Thanksgiving and it’s really fun to make!

  • Flatten out a coffee filter 
  • Using whatever colors you choose(use more than one) draw lines of different sizes across the filter in any way you like
  • Paint a clothespin brown 
  • Glue on two googly eyes onto the clothespins 
  • Cut a small triangle out of yellow construction paper and glue it onto the clothespin.
  • Cut out an orange wavy line curving down and glue it over the triangle
  • Fold coffee filters in half and crinkle them a bit to fluff them out
  • Insert the coffee filter into the clothespin 
  • Make more!

6. Beaded Pipe Cleaner Indian Corn

  • Line up 4 tan colored pipe cleaners
  • Twist the 4 pipe cleaners around in the middle
  • Still keeping the twist in the middle, flatten the four pipe cleaners into the shape of a star
  • Start threading red, orange, yellow, and brown beads onto your pipe cleaners.
  • Take the tips of your pipe cleaners and bend them upward. Twist the ends together. 
  • Make as many as you want!

7. Lollipop Spiders: This craft is really easy and it is a great way to celebrate Halloween!

  • Take a lollipop (make sure it has its wrapper on it).
  • Take 4 black pipe cleaners.
  • Twist the pipe cleaners right below the wrapper
  • Glue two small googly eyes on top of the twist
  • You can make a lot of spiders to give to your friends and family! You can use wrappers of different colors. 

8. Pumpkin Vase: For this craft, you do need a faux pumpkin. Although it might be a little harder than the other crafts, it’s worth it!

  • Cut the stem off the faux pumpkin
  • Cut out a block of Styrofoam and stick it into the pumpkin. You may need to use hot glue for the Styrofoam to stick.
  • Finally, stick flowers into the Styrofoam. Add as many as you want!!

9. Festive Pinecones: This craft is really easy and fun to make! And you can put it anywhere you want! 

  • Collect as many pinecones as you want
  • Use glitter glue to add glitter onto your pinecone
  • You can add glitter where ever your want
  • You can also glue on ribbons if you want
  • Enjoy!
